I believe in the power of memory to shut off subjection and servility.

Because memory encourages resistance to subjection and is a weapon against cultural interloping and encirclement. I have opened unfamiliar doors, climbed mountains, waded through thick forests to search for the chanters and cantoras of old times. I have earned more than enough courage to enter dungeons below earth's surface so that I may see the faces of those who have remained unsung and nameless because they have not been given the graces to come out to sing their own songs.
